The Love Fix

Dec 2, 2022

Sherry and Carla first start talking about how being single can sometimes get a bad rap, and the many reasons it’s better to be single than in the wrong relationship. Also, you’re never alone when you have a connection with yourself and to the higher powers in your life, whatever that means for you. They take a question from a Love Fix listener who is trying to stick to no contact with an abusive ex, but finding it really challenging and wondering how long the pain will last. They then welcome guest Leanne Oaten, a former counselor with over 10 years of experience working in the field of therapy and coaching. Leanne founded Awakening Women’s support in 2017 to raise awareness for women experiencing hidden abuse and narcissistic abuse in their relationships.

What You’ll Hear In This Episode:

  •  No contact is really hard, but it’s crucial for breaking an abusive cycle.
  • One of the first signs of abuse: if you find yourself confused and constantly questioning yourself, you are most likely being manipulated. Also, when you try to raise an issue, it always goes sideways and turns into a big long drama fest.
  • What is the difference between a controlling, critical, and abusive relationship?
  • More on Leanne’s Awakening Women community, along with how to work with Sherry and Carla on overcoming codependency, dating, break-ups, healing from toxic relationships, and gaining confidence.
  • How a woman can begin to feel more empowered, even though she may not be ready to leave yet.
  • What happens to your body when you’re in contact with the abuser, and how we can become addicted to the feeling.
  • Leanne talks about building empathy for women from her own personal journey of being in an abusive relationship, and being able to get out of it to heal, set boundaries, and regain her confidence.
  • Some tips to start leaving an abusive relationship before the breaking point, including making sure you have enough money and a supportive team in place.
